Moving to Sydney

A couple of months from now, I’ll be moving to Sydney to take up a position as Lecturer in Systematic Theology at United Theological College (a university-based seminary in Parramatta: it’s both a seminary of the Uniting Church and part of the School of Theology at Charles Sturt University). So I’ll be teaching undergraduate and Masters students, as well as supervising doctoral research. Needless to say, I’d be glad to talk to any of you Sydneysiders who might be considering doctoral work in theology.

I’m told that my great, great, great (etc) grandfather was Governor of the Parramatta jail, way back in the 19th century – and he was such a despicable tyrant that the inmates rioted and killed him. I trust my own time in Parramatta will be just as memorable.

And here I was hoping you might come to W(h)ales; instead you go for Eels. Still, congratulations on your new appointment as warden.

Oh yeah, Byron, I forgot - New South Wales. And here I am, still in the old creation. It figures: Ben - ever the eschatologist!

While the rest of you are heaping congratulations on Ben for this, admittedly, exciting appointment, spare a thought for us poor souls at Forest Lake Uniting Church who are losing the Myers from our parish ... and are much the poorer for it!

All the same, bravo, Ben! Bravo! God knows the Uniting Church (and Sydney, for that matter) could do with some serious theology.

We love you all, and will miss you terribly.

i heard a rumour on the grapevine that you might have been the one to receive the appointment, congrats.

we have some of the candidates down here (wagga wagga) this fortnight doing a rural placement, i've caught up with some of them a couple of times now and another friend from down here is moving up to live on campus in 09.

you'll find some good people down there, and if you're ever traveling down the southern part of the synod feel free to pop on in and say hi.

Congratulations Ben. That's great news, not least for the Australian church. For a while there, I was worried that the Antipodes might have lost you for the great northern vacuum.
