Good point. Maybe you could recruit a whole faculty from the book of Job: his friends are experts in pastoral theology; his wife ("curse God and die") has a good emphasis on praxis; the long-winded Elihu could certainly teach systematics; and of course there's Behemoth and Leviathan, who would make excellent university administrators. That still leaves the Satan: I can't quite decide where he would best fit — probably as an expert in Leadership.
Definitely leadership. But – contra usual management practise – I’m sure he actually gets his hands dirty in on the ground ministry too. I’m sure he runs a lot of men’s ministry and designs and facilitates Christmas carols / blinking lights entertainment fests (he usually dresses up in a funny red suit this time of the year). [Apologies to the satan in Job – I’m thinking more of the New Testament Diablos here.]
Yes I think Job would make a great New Testament lecturer

ReplyDeleteSatan as an expert in leadership? You're killin' me Ben! Just for that, I'm mailing you a copy of my new book for Christmas: "Jesus as CEO." :-)
ReplyDeleteWouldn't Satan head the theology department?

ReplyDeleteI second Fat's statement/question.
ReplyDeleteJesus was not a theologian nor is the Bible a theological text.
Satan would teach Emergent Church theology
ReplyDelete@Michael - Emergent Church theology: is that even a thing or are you just making words up?
ReplyDeleteI can kind of imagine the Satan maintaining the faculty's blog...
ReplyDelete@Michael, if you're going to diss the emerging church, at least do it right. It's, like, "Emerging Church conversations".
