Free for God

“Not for anything in the world would I be free from God; I wish to be free in God and for God…. God must again be the centre of our whole life.”

—Nicolai Berdyaev, The End of Our Time (New York: Sheed & Ward, 1933), p. 105.

  1. Reminds me of Martin Luther's concept of Christian Freedom - by grace we are freed from sin, freed from works, freed from . . . for service to God and others.

  2. Good quote. No, really good quote.

Pardon my ignorance, but what's the context?

  3. G'day Bruce -- actually, I suspect the quote is better than the context. In context, Berdyaev is calling for a new form of socialist state in which there is no need for coercion or violence, since the state is organised by inner spiritual freedom.
