Over the years I have gained a much greater respect for Kung and his work.

Thanks for this post!!T.B. In fact your comment reminded me, I should have also mentioned his courage in my post, for he certainly has had that in abundance, and it is a quality I much admire in theology.

Hi Simon, again.
In truth, I think a NT man is a theologian of sorts - at least at one level, whether he or she knows it or not. But specifically, I mean 'NT man' to mean that I'm mainly concerned with matters of biblical exegesis, working with the original languages, exegetical methods such as rhetorical criticism, historical analysis etc.

Alles Gute,
ChrisChris Tillinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03153087287030167791noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14261952.post-1149865688106396902006-06-09T11:08:00.000-04:002006-06-09T11:08:00.000-04:00What is the difference between a "New Testament ma...What is the difference between a "New Testament man" as opposed to "a theologian", I wonder - is that like contrasting a short order cook with a dietician, maybe?

Frankly, the world would be a darker place with out guys frying burgers. But I've never quite seen the wisdom of having dieticians.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14261952.post-1149864658369651002006-06-09T10:50:00.000-04:002006-06-09T10:50:00.000-04:00Thanks, Chris, for your fine addition to Ben's ser...Thanks, Chris, for your fine addition to Ben's series.

Küng was of immense importance to me in the early years of my fides quaerens intellectum, not least for the reasons you give for your own affection, and I often still consult The Church (1968), On Being a Christian (1974) and Does God Exist? (1978). His forthcoming book on Islam will no doubt be impressive.

An immense intellect, an orderly intelligence, an unsilenceable courage - a Christian humanist in the best sense of the word. A real prince of the church - or shall we call him King Küng!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
